Nelson remained silent. He suddenly realized that she was desperately trying to keep this job, like a wild grass with an incredibly strong will to live.
After some time, the sofa beside Callie sank as Nelson sat down. He examined her design plans and asked, "How much more?"
Callie, exhausted, replied, "Almost done."
Nelson leaned back on the sofa and, after getting a clear look, asked, "School district housing?"
Callie laughed incredulously. "You spent a fortune on this project and don't know what type it is?"
Nelson indeed didn't know because his initial purpose was just to use it for practice.
"Take your time. If you can't finish in time, I'll find a way to delay it," Nelson said in a deep voice, absentmindedly playing with a cigarette case.
Callie's hands paused on the keyboard. She turned to look into his misty eyes. "Are you backing me up?"
"So what if I am?"
His straightforward and honest answer left her speechless.
