Chapter 4113
The next day, Liberty only woke up at noon. She had barely managed to fall asleep around four o’clock but slept through the morning. Reaching for her phone on the bedside table, she checked the time and was surprised to see it was almost noon.
Liberty quickly sat up. She changed her clothes at lightning speed, freshened up, and then hurried downstairs.
The first floor was quiet and only the sound of her footsteps echoed through the house.
“Caroline. Caroline?” Liberty called out twice, but there was no response.
She guessed Caroline might have gone out or was in the yard. The smell of food lingered in the house, indicating that lunch had already been prepared.
Liberty walked toward the front door. Just as she reached the doorway, she saw Caroline returning with Darren and a few others.
Liberty’s sharp eyes immediately spotted her husband.
Duncan was sitting in a wheelchair, being pushed by his bodyguard, while another bodyguard pulled a suitcase.
Caroline and Darren were also carrying multiple large and small gift boxes. They were local specialties from Wiltspoon that Duncan had brought.
When Caroline saw the pile of gifts, she immediately said to him, “Now that Liberty is the mistress of Fisher Manor, and you’re her husband, this place is practically your home too. You didn’t have to bring so many gifts.”
“It’s a token of respect for my aunt.”
Duncan’s response made Caroline smile and accept the gifts.
Although she was a few years younger than Liberty, Liberty really did have to call her “aunt” per the family tree. Since Duncan was Liberty’s husband, he naturally followed suit and addressed her as so.
“Liberty's awake.”
Caroline noticed Liberty standing at the doorway and said with a smile, “Liberty, look who’s here. Mr. Lewis heard you couldn’t sleep and was worried, so he got up early to catch a flight. He just arrived.”
Liberty walked down the steps and approached the group.
“Duncan, why didn’t you...you didn’t even tell me you were coming.”
Seeing her husband here, Liberty was overjoyed, and the smile on her face was impossible to hide.
At the sight of her, Duncan’s bodyguard automatically stepped aside for Liberty to take over pushing Duncan's wheelchair.
“I wanted to surprise you.”
Duncan was also smiling, but he lowered his voice for the next sentence. “I didn’t dare make a big fuss about it because I was afraid Sonny would cry and want to come along. He has preschool tomorrow.”
There was also a bit of selfishness in his decision. He wanted to spend some alone time with Liberty.
Sonny was a well-behaved child, but he was still a child. To newlyweds, he was like an incredibly bright and unavoidable third wheel.
“If Sonny finds out you came here alone without telling him, he’ll definitely complain about you later,” Liberty said.
Duncan chuckled. When the time came, he would just buy some toys to placate Sonny. The kid was easy to please.
“I’ll tell Sonny I came here for work. It’s a business trip, so of course, it’s not suitable to bring him along. Besides, he has preschool, so it’s not convenient timing-wise.”
Liberty laughed. She knew he was lying. He had come here because of her. He knew she felt anxious, so he came to be her support, her rock.
Indeed, he might still be in a wheelchair, but his mind was as sharp as ever. When it came to managing a large company and doing business, Duncan was far more experienced than her.
With him by her side to offer guidance and analysis, she would not feel completely lost.
