Spencer went alone, taking the fastest flight he could, then switching to a car that tore down the highway toward the border town. His heart pounded the entire way. He had to find Suzanne this time. But less than 30 miles from town, on a winding mountain road, everything went wrong. A heavy truck lost control on a bend and came straight at his car. The driver yanked the wheel hard enough to scrape the mountainside and barely miss a head-on collision. But the rear still got clipped. The car spun out and rolled off the road. The impact hit like an explosion. Metal screamed, glass shattered, and the world flipped upside down. In the last instant before Spencer went under, the only thing on his mind was the image of Suzanne playing the piano with her head lowered.
