"No one I can call right now," I told Mason, my heart pounding against my ribs as I shook my head weakly.
My skull felt like it was being crushed from the inside, pressure building behind my eyes.
"My brother is at work. I can't drag him into this," I said, my voice barely above a whisper. "Noah's suffered enough because of me already..."
The guilt crashed over me like a wave.
Noah was finally stable after his surgery.
Katy was buried in finals, and Mia had gone since the weekend - probably lost in some design project at her aunt's shop.
Mason pulled out his phone, eyebrows raised. "What about Sherman then? I should probably—"
"No!" I practically lunged for his phone.
My hand shot out, pushing his away with surprising force despite how weak I felt.
"Not him," I said, my voice steadier now. "Please don't call Sherman. Just... don't."
The room spun around me, and I gripped the table edge. "Fine, I'll go with you. But promise you won't call him."
