Yasmin quickly explained, panic lingering in her voice, "I just saw two people run a red light. They were nearly hit by a car. It scared the life out of me."
Jensen shrugged casually. "You'll have to get used to it. This isn't Valoria. Back home, it's nearly impossible to get robbed in broad daylight."
Living abroad certainly had its admirable aspects, but there were just as many things that made one uneasy. People here were largely individualistic and seldom adhered to rules. The government had little power to intervene.
Crime wasn't uncommon, and rule-breaking was a part of everyday life. Some called it freedom and democracy; others would call it pure chaos.
Running a red light was about as ordinary as crossing the street.
Yasmin nodded thoughtfully. "Got it."
Mason smiled and asked, "So how long are you staying?"
"I'm flying back tomorrow night," she replied.
"What time? I'll join you."
