Chapter 17 A Room Full of Roses
Vicky and Fiona had been waiting for them to return. They immediately leaped to their feet when they saw Marjorie returning alone, looking crestfallen as she clutched a box in her hands.
"What happened, Marjorie? Did Stephen do something to hurt you? Where is he now?"
"I'm fine, Mommy. Stephen needed to go back to the office because something came up," Marjorie replied, forcing out a smile.
"Okay. Fiona baked some bread this afternoon; would you like some? I'll ask her to heat some milk for you too."
Marjorie nodded, but for the most part, she was just agreeing so Vicky would not suspect anything was up.
After eating supper, Marjorie returned to her room.
"What a waste of our efforts. We spent the entire afternoon placing those roses!" Vicky and Fiona both sighed as they watched Marjorie disappear up the stairs.
However, her jaw dropped the moment Marjorie turned on the bedroom lights.
