Chapter 39. The Snake Pit

The first sliver of indigo begins to tinge the impenetrable darkness, with each second leading to an impending sunrise. My tinpot car trundles cautiously along the narrow road, encased between tall trees and high hedges. There's a mutual feeling of claustrophobia among the group and each time we reached a sharp turn, everyone would hold their breath -- including me. Who knew what dangers lurked in the shadows? We are deep in enemy territory; wading into a dangerous situation. Even a shadowy stretch of road had us feeling uneasy. Before we set off, Claire pointed us to the place where Gomez had first met Allie all those years ago; a city called Tingham. Circled in red on the map, it's a fairly large human city which welcomes a huge vampire presence. Come to think of it, Allie dating a bloodthirsty vampire hardly comes as a surprise.
