Chapter 33
The phone rang once, then twice, before I picked it up with trembling fingers.
“Haley,” Sebastian’s voice came through, frantic and strained. “Jordan and Joey... they’re gone. Someone took them.”
My heart dropped.
“What?” I whispered, almost choking on the word.
“They’re gone,” he repeated. “I—I don’t know what to do. Please. Just come.”
The line went dead before I could ask anything more.
I stood frozen, phone still pressed to my ear. My thoughts turned into white noise. Gone? What did that even mean? My son... taken?
My fingers started to shake uncontrollably.
Logan who was standing next to me, he came to me and asked, “Haley?” he asked gently. “What happened?”
I couldn’t even look at him. My knees wobbled. I felt like the ground was tilting.
He came even more closer, placing a steadying hand on my shoulder. “Haley, talk to me.”
I looked up into his face, and something in me cracked wide open.
“They’re gone,” I whispered. “Jordan. Joey. Sebastian said... someone took them.”
