Abigail ran her hand across the wooden sculpture, feeling its extraordinary texture.
"Do you like it, Abby?" Samuel looked at her and asked. He was wearing his distressed T-shirt.
Abigail nodded enthusiastically. "Like it? I love it! This renovation must have cost a fortune. Samuel, where did you even get the money? I gave you my bank card and you wouldn't take it."
Samuel cleared his throat. "Well, I just got some old, unused materials from the construction site. Mr. Dawson didn't want them, so I brought them back and repurposed them."
She touched the sculpture again. "When we officially open, we're treating Mr. Dawson to a proper meal. If it weren't for him, we wouldn't even have this place."
Samuel felt a pang of discontent that Matthew was getting all the credit, but he couldn't bring himself to say it. "Don't worry about that. I'll take care of it."
"Look up there," Owen chimed in, pointing to the signage above.
"Parker Diner," Abigail read aloud before her gaze locked on
