Abigail's eyes welled up with tears. She quickly stepped forward and wrapped her beloved mother in a firm embrace. Her voice trembled as she said, "Thank you, Mom."
Yvonne was equally choked up with emotion. The decorations hadn't cost much, but to see her daughter so deeply moved made it feel all the more meaningful.
She gently patted Abigail's back. "Silly girl. There's no need for 'thank you' between family. You've worked so hard these past few weeks—running around to get the new shop ready and spending your days gathering herbs and brewing medicine for me and Xavier.
"I should be the one thanking you. Thank you for coming home. Thank you for giving us a chance to love you."
Tears streamed down Abigail's cheek as she pulled back and beamed through her tears. "I love it!"
"Actually," Yvonne whispered, leaning in, though her voice was just loud enough for everyone to hear, "This was all Xavier's idea."
From his wheelchair, Xavier scowled. "I never said that. You and Dad insiste
