He turned his phone on silent but kept checking it every two minutes, like an idiot. His jaw tightened. Maybe she didn’t see it yet. Maybe she was still sleeping.
Even when he got to his seat in first class, he checked again. Still nothing.
Roy was storing their bags overhead when David’s phone vibrated slightly, his heartbeat jumped but it was only a message from Marina.
His lips pressed together.
He stared at the chat again. The small “Seen” mark never appeared.
By the time the flight attendants were announcing takeoff, his patience had already started to crack. He stared out the window, the blue sky reflecting faintly on the glass, but all he could think about was Lily.

The thought made something ugly burn inside his chest. He unlocked his phone again, fingers trembling slightly, and pressed her name. The line started to ring.
