The silence stretched, thick with tension.
David’s jaw tightened, his voice dropping low, almost dangerous. “You’ll regret this, Lily.”
Her hand pressed against the door, her chin lifted. “No. The only regret I have is ever giving my heart to you.”
Her words cut deeper than a knife. His eyes darkened, fury and hurt colliding in them, but he couldn’t form a reply.
Lily pushed the door again, forcing him to move back. This time, he didn’t stop her. She stepped inside and shut it firmly, the sound echoing in the hall.
On the other side, David stood still. His fists trembled, his eyes burning red, his chest heaving with unspoken rage.
Inside, Lily pressed her back against the door, tears finally slipping down her cheeks. Her hands clenched, her heart heavy, but her resolve was strong. She would not go back. Not this time.
Outside, David’s figure remained by her door, unmoving, like a shadow that refused to leave.
