"Right now." Milton put down his fork and quickly made his way up to shore, with Oliver right behind him.
The sky was getting dimmer. Soon they'd need to turn the lights on. Before that happened, Elaine wanted to finish grilling her skewers.
But when she looked over at the bank again, she realized Milton and Oliver were gone.
"Where'd they go? They were just there," she mumbled to herself, confused.
Marcus had been busy sprinkling seasoning and hadn't paid attention either. Hearing her, he looked up too. No sign of them.
No way someone could just disappear in broad daylight. Could they have fallen into the water?
With twilight creeping in, Elaine felt uneasy. "Babe, can you hold things down here? I'm gonna go look for them."
"I'll come with you," Marcus said, putting down what he was doing.
But Elaine figured someone had to stay and watch their stuff. "I'm just checking nearby. Shouldn't take long. You stay put."
Marcus hesitated, then said, "Don't go out of my sight."
