Word around the cafeteria was, he'd left already.
Ethan dashed back to the office, panting heavily, only to find Marcus lounging in his chair, flipping through a book with nothing better to do.
"Iceman—don't tell me you seriously went to the cafeteria to eat?" Ethan wheezed out the breathless question.
Marcus didn't look up. He seemed absorbed in whatever foreign book he was holding. But in reality, he wasn't reading a word. His head was a mess, and he couldn't even explain to himself why he'd gone to the cafeteria in the first place, why—
He let out a quiet sigh, set the book down, and pinched the bridge of his nose tiredly. Ethan caught that subtle gesture.
Marcus, not once known to step foot in the company cafeteria, had actually gone there to eat. If this were any other time, Ethan wouldn't have made a big deal out of it. But not now—not with everything that's been happening.
Squinting suspiciously, Ethan tested the waters: "Don't tell me... you went there to see Audrey?"
