Elaine said, lying through her teeth, "I was afraid the food'd get cold, so I figured I'd just bring it over and eat with you."
Like Marcus would actually believe that. But he wasn't gonna call her out either — who knew what she was really up to.
Elaine opened the lunchbox like the picture of domestic bliss, laying out the dishes one by one. Then, with a casual tone that didn't hide the probing underneath, she asked, "You're worried about the cyberattack, right?"
Marcus's expression instantly sharpened. Elaine rushed to explain, "Henry mentioned it."
"I squeezed it out of him," she added quickly. It seemed she still had some conscience left and didn't want to drag Henry down with her.
Marcus didn't say a word, just studied her like she had grown a second head.
Elaine handed over the fork and tilted her head. "As your oh-so-legit wife, I think I'm allowed to know, right?"
