The light from Kane’s chest burned through the battlefield like a second sun, casting long shadows across blood-soaked stones and the bodies of wolves, Forsaken, and fallen spirits alike. Caitlyn’s fingers gripped his tighter, anchoring them both as the energy crackled between their palms like a living thing—wild, hot, pulsing.
It wasn’t gentle.
It wasn’t clean.
It hurt.
A lot.
“Kane—” Caitlyn gasped, her voice hoarse as her knees buckled beneath the pressure. “Are you okay?”
He didn’t answer right away. His eyes were squeezed shut, teeth gritted, veins in his neck standing out like cords.
“I... I can feel them,” he whispered, barely able to speak. “All of them.”
Caitlyn forced herself to stay steady. “The Alphas?”
He nodded. “Not just them. The ones before them. All of them. They’re loud.”
He clutched her hand harder.
“They’re screaming.”
