Chapter 31 His Mother Apologizes
He lifted it!!!
Yana Merritt and Irene Bexley stared in disbelief.
They both knew Oscar Merritt's leg condition all too well—like the withered roots of an ancient tree. They had consulted every renowned doctor and tried every remedy, yet not the slightest improvement had ever occurred.
"It's a miracle! Absolutely a miracle!" Yana wept with joy, tears streaming down her face. In her excitement, she suddenly recalled what Violet Leach had said earlier.
"You really can make Oscar walk again within half a month?" Yana asked, her eyes brimming with hope.
Violet shook her head. "Forget I ever said that."
What did she mean? Yana's mind reeled.
Violet sighed. "Didn't you tell me to leave? That the Merritts don't welcome me? I'm not so shameless as to stay when you're all driving me away. I have my dignity. I've decided to pack up and leave right now—never to set foot in your family home again."
Yana panicked at once.
"I only spoke in the heat of the moment—I never meant to drive you away."
