Chapter 64 Wesley's Confession
His piercing dark eyes narrowed slightly as he descended the stairs with long, powerful strides.
Violet moved to Oscar's side and extended her hand. "Take my hand. I'll help you up."
Before the words had fully left her lips, Wesley stepped beside her.
"I'll do it."
Oscar studied his brother's cool, impassive face and instantly sensed it—his brother was jealous.
But he had no time to dwell on that now. Violet had said he could stand, and his heart pounded with nervous anticipation.
Hope warred with fear of disappointment.
Sensing his tension, Violet reassured him, "I have full confidence in my skills. Just trust me—try without fear."
"Who's afraid? You're the scared one!" Oscar shot back defiantly, then gripped Wesley's arm and began pushing himself up with effort.
Pain!
Sharp, searing pain shot through his legs.
Aching, numb—unbearable!
He couldn't do it. He was going to collapse back into the wheelchair.
