Chapter 271

"I will, Dad." Layton was equally impressed with Lily. It was not just because of her medical skills but also because of her shocking behavior during the auction the other day. She had successfully bid for the Redushil during the auction. The Hidden Families and the Four Greatest Families of Bridgeport went after her and Belinda because of this. However, where Belinda had not survived, Lily was unscathed. Since Belinda's death, the Hidden Families and the entirety of Bridgeport had gone quiet. Not one of them dared venture into Lagersfield City to pick a fight with Lily. It seemed Lily could do anything, a fact that stumped Layton. He wondered just how much a 19-year-old young lady could be capable of. "Bridgeport will undergo an upheaval because of Ms. Brooks," Qillian observed gravely. Layton hesitated for a moment before asking, "Dad, I'm not too concerned about Ms. Brooks' capability. But after spending 50 billion dollars at the auction, what money will she have left to support our family?" He had faith in Lily's abilities, but she was too young to have amassed such a great fortune. Fifty billion dollars was no small amount, after all. More importantly, the Weisses were an old family. It would take hundreds of billions of dollars to get them to rise to power. Qillian considered this issue as well, but he quickly dismissed Layton's concerns. "Will the fate of our family truly depend on a 19-year-old young lady? Ms. Brooks is in charge of my recovery now. I'm sure word of her treating my illness will spread soon, and my recovery will no longer be a secret." There was a glimmer in his cloudy eyes as he added, "It's about time I restructure the Weiss family." After leaving Lagersfield Hotel, Loid and Lily grabbed a simple meal before returning to Anmer Heights. Yolanda was waiting outside Anmer Heights, looking resentful and angry. Lily gave Loid a look as a smirk curled her lips. "You might want to try some new tricks, Loid." She figured he had conveniently forgotten to give Yolanda the keys to the house, just as he had done with Shannon previously. He was a scion, for heaven's sake. Lily had pegged him for the serious type, but he was proving her wrong with his childish antics. Loid cleared his throat, wincing. "I actually forgot about the keys this time." He had no interest in picking fights with Yolanda, who was too young for him to keep locked out of the house on purpose. Yolanda got into the car and sobbed. "How could you do this to me, Loid? Do you know how cold it is out there? I waited here for three hours! I get that you don't like me, but you don't have to be so cruel about it!" Lily scrolled through her phone and drawled nonchalantly, "I'm the one who dislikes you, so leave him out of it." She wasn't about to sit there and let someone else grumble about her man. He could have been at fault for all she cared and she still wouldn't let anyone blame him for it. "You—" Yolanda seethed, shooting a dark look at Lily. Lily glanced at the fuming young lady through the rearview mirror. There was an icy gleam in her eyes. "Got a problem?" Yolanda felt a chill down her spine when she caught Lily's deadly gaze. She turned to Loid for help. "Loid, I grew up with you! You can't let her speak to me this way!" After hearing Lily defend him, Loid was ready to let her speak to Yolanda any way she liked. He could no longer hide the smile curving his lips. "Sorry, but my fiancée's behavior is completely out of my hands. Feel free to talk to her about it if you like." "I…" Yolanda clenched her jaw. There was nothing she could do about Lily. Joanne had told her before she came to Lagersfield City not to pick a fight with Lily. The car stopped right outside Amner Heights. Lily opened the door and got out of the vehicle. She warned Yolanda, "If you want to live here, stop whining or I'll have you sent back to your family!"
