Chapter 283
In the past, students used to gather around Lily between classes. But now, they all surrounded Yolanda. Yolanda glanced in Lily's direction and lifted her chin with a smug expression.
So what if Lily was Loid's fiancée? Yolanda was the one everyone saw as a goddess. As long as she was there, all eyes would be on her.
Yolanda was thinking to herself triumphantly, but Lily didn't spare her a single glance. As soon as class was over, Lily lazily slumped over her desk to nap.
Just as she lay down, she heard Anya and felt someone poking her arm. "Lily, are you asleep? I have something for you," said Anya.
Lily's daytime nap was always light. With the noisy classroom, she hadn't fallen asleep. As soon as Anya called her, she woke up. Anya turned her head slightly. Her expression wasn't too pleasant, though she was trying to suppress it.
"What is it?"
Anya handed Lily a small box. "I noticed your dark circles have been really bad lately, and you don't seem happy. I thought you might be having trouble sleeping. This herb is great for helping with sleep. You should drink it as tea every day."
Lily lazily opened the box. Upon seeing its contents, her expression changed. She immediately sat up straight and grabbed Anya's hand. Lily's expression was serious as she asked, "Where'd you get this?"
Anya was startled by Lily's sudden action. "What's wrong?"
"Tell me, where did this come from?" Lily almost growled. Her fingers unconsciously grasped tightly, causing Anya's wrist to hurt. With tears in her eyes, Anya whispered, "It's from my house. If you don't like it, I'll take it back. Please don't be angry."
"Your house?" Lily frowned, her expression grim. The herb Anya gave her was no ordinary herb. It was the highly coveted Redushil. How could it be at Anya's house?
"Yes." Anya saw that Lily wasn't mad and explained, "My parents grow it, so we have a lot of it at home. I told them on the phone yesterday that you were having trouble sleeping, so they sent this over."
Lily was speechless. A lot of it? Was Anya sure that it was Redushil? Lily let go of Anya's hand, looked at the Redushil in the box, and asked, "Didn't you say your parents were farmers?"
"Yes, they are," Anya said. Her eyes were filled with innocence.
"And you said your family is poor?" Lily was stunned.
"Yes. They just grow vegetables and herbs. Their income is very low. We're indeed poor," Anya said earnestly. Lily was at a loss for words.
If this was considered poor, then what was considered rich?
Seeing Lily's disbelief, Anya quickly added, "I'm not lying. My parents said this herb is the cheapest we have. It only sells for 20 dollars. The better herbs can sell for a few hundred. That's why they always urge me to study hard. It's so that they can afford to keep me."
Lily was silent for a moment. She didn't know what to say.
"Are you mad?" Anya asked cautiously. Lily took a deep breath and forced a smile. "No. Just… can you take me to your house?"
"Of course!" Anya exclaimed excitedly. "We can go after school on Saturdays. My parents have been wanting to thank you for helping me at school. They would be so happy if you visited."
Lily pulled the box away, glanced at Anya, and decided it wasn't worth arguing anymore.
