Chapter 285
Lily wanted to return to the kitchen to continue her research when she was done, but Loid was adamant. "Go to bed."
The antidote for the Mindshroud poison was starting to show some promise. Lily wanted to finish her research before sleeping. However, Loid looked really determined. She realized she wouldn't be able to continue tonight, so she complied and went to bed.
After Lily went upstairs, Loid turned off the living room lights and prepared to go upstairs himself. As he reached the staircase, he suddenly felt a pair of eyes watching him.
He quickly turned around but saw nothing behind him. Narrowing his eyes, his stern face briefly showed a hint of an untraceable expression.
…
In the following days, Loid and Lily didn't have much alone time as there were more people at Anmer Heights. Lily was busy with school and research, leaving little time to talk to Loid.
Shaun and Daniel also rarely visited Anmer Heights. They usually just reported matters to Loid over the phone. It was mainly due to Michael's eccentric behavior, which intimidated them.
On Saturday, Lily wanted to visit Anya's house. Seizing the rare chance to be alone with Lily, Loid decided to accompany her. Shaun and Daniel also followed as they had to discuss some matters with Loid in person.
Yolanda and Poppy wanted to come along, but Lily didn't allow it.
There were classes on Saturday morning. So, they were only free after 12:00 pm.
It took over five hours to travel from Lagersfield City to Anya's house. By the time they arrived, it was almost dark.
James Mosley and Emily Carter, Anya's parents, prepared a meal upon learning that Lily and the others were coming. The dishes were plentiful. Since there wasn't much time, Emily had bought some ready-made food from a restaurant in advance.
Shaun was astonished by the lavish meal. He glanced between Anya's parents and Anya. "Is your family the rich type in the countryside?"
This meal could rival that of a five-star hotel. How could this be the home of farmers? How could they have such culinary skills?
Shaun didn't look down on Anya's parents for being farmers; he was just astounded. Not only was the meal exquisite, but their home was a private villa with luxurious decor. This made it hard to believe that this was a farmer's residence.
"You're all used to delicacies. Our house is quite simple. Please don't mind," said James. He was dressed plainly and looked like an honest man, appearing somewhat uneasy.
Shaun's mouth twitched. Simple? James must have misunderstood the meaning of the word "simple".
"Mr. Mosley, you're too modest." Lily had anticipated that Anya's home might be different from what they thought. So, she wasn't surprised after seeing it.
Loid smiled and tried to appear amiable. "We're the ones intruding. Thank you for preparing such a wonderful dinner."
"They're just normal home-cooked dishes. As time was tight, I asked Emily to order some from the restaurant." James then invited them to have a seat and said, "You all must be hungry after such a long journey. Come, let's eat."
James and Emily were amiable people. Lily and the others made themselves at home.
James poured Lily a glass of water and raised his own glass, smiling. "Lily, I'd like to give you a toast. Thank you for taking care of our Anya in school. Ever since you were her deskmate, her studies have improved. Plus, her classmates no longer bullied her. Thank you."
Lily raised her glass filled with water and paused. Then, she took another glass and poured some wine before clinking glasses with James. "There's no need to be so formal, Mr. Mosley."
James laughed and said, "Alright. No need for formalities among us. Enjoy your meal."
After that, everyone ate happily. Shaun, being naturally sociable, drank quite a bit with James. Emily was a straightforward woman and got along well with everyone.
