Loid pulled Lily into the car, driving straight toward Laurier Residence. Melanie was at home trimming her plants when she noticed Loid and Lily rushing in. She blinked in surprise. "What brings you two here at this hour?" Lily and Loid had been busy lately and hadn't visited in a while. They hadn't given Melanie any prior notice, so she wasn't expecting them. "Melanie, hand me my identity card," Loid said as he walked in. "Identity card? What do you need that for?" Melanie asked, confused. "It's for something important," Loid replied. "Just get it, please." "Alright," Melanie didn't ask further and handed it to him. Loid grabbed the identity card and quickly pulled Lily out the door without saying a word to Melanie. "Hey, aren't you staying for dinner?" Melanie called after them, but Loid had already driven off. She sighed, muttering, "What on earth are they up to now?" She then went back to tending her plants. Loid made two phone calls on the way to the city clerk's office.
