By evening, Maeve had changed into the gown and descended the stairs.
Sabrina and Serena still weren't back, but Liam had been waiting in the living room for quite a while. He glanced at his watch before looking up at Maeve. "Why are you so slow?"
Hearing the impatience in his voice, Maeve replied, "Getting ready takes time, especially for women. If you're in such a rush, Mr. Larson, go ahead. I'll catch up."
Liam sneered at the sight of her in a sleek white mermaid gown. "You really think I'm going to leave and let you run off? Maeve, you must think I'm an idiot."
"Oh no, you caught me red-handed," Maeve said with mock surprise.
In one swift move, Liam grabbed her arm. He nearly caused her to lose her balance as she stumbled back a step.
"Don't try any tricks. I'm not giving you the chance to slip away." With that, he pulled out a pair of handcuffs and snapped them onto her wrist.
Maeve glanced down at the cuffs and let out an exasperated laugh. "You actually had these ready?"
