Jeremy had no idea Gabriel had deliberately let him slip through.
In truth, their ceremony had already taken place the day before. Gabriel had split it into two events, worried that Eloise would be too exhausted.
That was why he chose to stream the ceremony. Today was merely the reception, held for the guests.
Jeremy tore through the venue, searching for her, only to realize he'd been played. Defeated, he slunk back, his face dark as a thundercloud.
The reception was already over. The empty banquet hall stretched before him, and in a fit of rage, he smashed the champagne tower in front of him.
Shards sliced his face, but he didn't feel a thing. No one knew how much it hurt inside.
The shattered glass didn't just cut his skin. It felt like it tore into his heart and bones. Each shard seemed to slice through his very soul as if the spilled champagne were his blood.
"Jeremy?" Eloise's voice cut through the haze. She'd come back for her purse, not expecting to find him here.
