Lila and Rhett drove to one of the city's most popular private dining restaurants.
At the front desk, a heated argument was happening. "I'm sorry, ma'am. Your usual Stillwater Room has already been reserved today. We can move you to the Raindrop Room instead. The view there is just as lovely," the receptionist said, her voice careful and apologetic.
A shrill, impatient voice cut through the air. "No, I want the Stillwater Room. That room has the best view. We've been loyal customers for years. Can't you make an exception? Tell the person who booked it to move to a different room. I'll pay for their meal."
Her tone dripped with the arrogance of someone who believed she could get everything she wanted with enough money. The receptionist looked helpless, clearly caught between policy and a troublesome guest.
