Jackson glanced sideways at Lucas. Lucas, seemingly aware of this, shifted his gaze to meet Jackson's eyes. The two men's eyes met in mid-air. There seemed to be a silent battle going on between them. Suddenly, the corner of Jackson's mouth curled into a smile. He reached out and wrapped his hand around Serenity's shoulders, leaned down to move his face close to hers, and softly repeated his previous question, "What did you say you would let her have?"
