I groan, squeezing my eyes closed as the nausea rolls through my body.
“Okay, that’s it,” Isla says, the bite in her tone making me open my eyes. She stomps over and helps me up off the floor, shouldering most of my weight. “It’s been two days, and I can’t watch you waste away like this any longer. You’re not getting any better, and you can’t keep any food down.”
“I know,” I mumble, my voice rasping. I’ve thrown up so many times my throat is raw. I’m surprised I can even say anything. I let my head fall to Isla’s shoulder as she rants about me not arguing with her. What I don’t say is that I don’t plan to argue with her.
I thought I would get better by now, but like Isla said, I can’t keep anything down. There’s also this constant ache in my chest, almost like something has been pressed into my chest or like I swallowed air and there’s a bubble sitting in my chest.
