Chapter 18
Paige's POV
I felt awkward in Steve's tight hug, his familiar scent of storm-soaked oak forest and expensive cologne enveloping me.My wolf Tiana growling softly in discomfort. I was the one who pulled away and took a single step back, my heightened senses picking up on his disappointment.
"I'll cook your lunch, Steve. I'm sure you haven't eaten anything."
He smiled bitterly, his hazel-green eyes dulled with sorrow. "I'm fine, Paige."
I shook my head firmly. "I'm not leaving yet. I need to make sure that you're really fine."
"How about your cousins?" He suddenly asked, ignoring what I said. "You should be taking care of them and your Aunt Precy. How is she?"
I smiled sadly, my heart aching at the thought of my aunt."She's still unconscious. The pack doctor says her wolf is helping her heal, but it's taking time. Don't worry about my cousins though. They're managing."
"How 'bout you?" He asked, staring into my eyes, his gaze intense enough to make my wolf stir uneasily.
I heaved a sigh.
