Chapter Fifty-Three: A Lovely Dress
"You okay?" She asked again.
I nodded slowly. "I'm just a bit cold. I think I should be heading home now. Maybe Evans would meet me back home."
"But Sarah had other ideas. She seemed comfortable enough to finally have some company.
"Sit a bit with me; the night is still young, and don't worry about your head for Evans too much; he will be here soon."
I wanted to collapse on the chair, but I feared the chains and locks might get to me, and I might have no means of escape. I couldn't bring myself to leave the older woman just yet. Sarah was smothering me with kindness and tea.
"I'll make you jasmine tea for your cold," she said as she walked into the kitchen. I watched her from behind, her hunched back in a knitted cream-colored sweater. I trembled violently; I was suddenly out of control, but it was a chill, not merely fright or tiredness. She handed over the cup of jasmine tea to me. It had a sweet, floral, subtle, and refreshing taste, with an aroma that complemented it.
