Chapter Fifty-Nine Strange Tears
I was lucky enough to snag a cab when I left the shop since Angela won't allow me to drive in that situation. With tears in my eyes, I rambled the hospital's address to the cab driver.
It never occurred to me that crying over an ex-husband was strange; all I knew was that Thomas, the man I had loved for over two decades, the man who made me a wife and a mother, was in the hospital and might be dying.
My hands shook as I dialed Joyce's number. Seated in the cab's backseat, I watched buildings pass slowly and too slowly.
"I'll give you an extra fifty bucks if you get me to the hospital faster. " I said to the driver as I dipped my hand into my purse and dished out the extra money.
I and the driver make eye contact in the rearview mirror, and he steps on the accelerator.
"Mom, where are you?" Joyce answered the call with a shaking voice. I could hear the tears in her voice.
