"Just tell me how much," Ethan said bluntly.
He glanced over the stall—sure enough, that hair clip wasn't there anymore.
Cassandra raised two fingers and gave them a little shake.
"Two hundred, then," Mara said casually as she reached into Ethan’s pocket, fished out his wallet, and pulled out two crisp bills, handing them over without missing a beat.
"Nope, nope, nope!" Cassandra wagged her finger with exaggerated seriousness. "I meant two thousand. I mean, come on, you're the heiress of the almighty Hawthorne family. If you're not wearing a hair accessory worth at least two grand, it doesn’t match your status."
From what she remembered about Ethan in her past life, the guy never stepped out without a couple thousand in cash on him.
"Girl, are you for real? You love this clip, and it’s the only one. Once it’s gone, that’s it," Emma said, concerned. Then she turned to Mara, frowning. “Second Miss Hawthorne, ever heard of not taking what someone else treasures? Basic decency and all.”
