"Mr. Johnson, you’ve got some real nerve thinking you could pull a fast one at a time like this," Leo crossed his arms, pacing around him with a tone that made the air feel a little colder.
"I-I’m not quite sure what... what Mr. Winters is referring to," Mr. Johnson stammered, a cold sweat breaking out despite the air conditioning.
"Not sure?" With lightning speed, Leo slid two fingers into his pocket and pulled out a check. "What do you think’ll happen if I tell the Mayor you tried to switch the opening act behind his back and botch his son’s engagement party?"
Mr. Johnson’s legs nearly gave out. If Leo hadn’t steadied him, he probably would’ve collapsed right there.
"Now, now, Mr. Johnson, don’t do this to me," Leo teased lightly, helping him stand. "You're old enough to be my uncle. Watching you kneel like that might just shorten my lifespan."
With a harmless smile, he added, "I’m just curious, that’s all. Promise I won’t say a word to the Mayor."
