Chapter 42
Like she’d finally found a lifeline, Amelia Johnson clung tightly to Damien Taylor, burying her face into his chest as her sobs grew louder.
Damien gently rubbed her back. “Let it out, don’t hold it in.”
After a while, Amelia started to calm down. She wiped away her tears and looked up with a half-smile. “Sorry… That was probably a mess to watch.”
Damien met her gaze with a steady one. “Nah. We’re friends, remember? No need to apologize.”
“Thank you,” Amelia said sincerely.
Damien raised a brow. “Hmm?”
She added, “Thanks for letting me lean on you. Literally.”
His eyes lingered on her face, a flicker of warmth in his gaze. “You can use my shoulder anytime.”
That strange twist of emotions in Amelia’s chest bubbled up again, making her feel a little uneasy and… nervous.
After lunch, they went back to the room to pack up. Just as they were halfway through, her brother Oliver Foster video called.
He looked all pitiful on the screen. “Sis, how come you didn’t tell me you were coming home?”
