Before she could react, a dozen more cars pulled up, completely boxing in her vehicle and the ones her bodyguards drove.
Lilah Hart took a deep breath, quickly assessing the situation, then turned to her bodyguards and said, “We’re outnumbered. Don’t go charging in.”
One of the bodyguards gave a nod but was already dialing for backup.
Just then, someone started pounding on the car window.
One of the bodyguards instinctively reached for his gun, but Lilah calmly spoke up, “Open the door. I’m going out.”
“But, ma’am…” the bodyguard looked at her in shock.
“They’ve got way more people than us. Even if you fight to the death, do you think they’ll just magically spare me?” Her voice stayed level, cool under pressure.
She then looked at the driver and added, “Open up. I doubt they’ll hurt me right away.”
The driver glanced out at the swarm of people surrounding them and knew escape wasn’t in the cards. He shut his eyes briefly, then stepped out and opened the back door.
Lilah got out slowly,
