"That's Mr. Wallace's arrangement," Mr. Reed said, glancing at her like she was asking something obvious.
"Mr. Wallace's arrangement..." Verity's face went pale in an instant. "Why... why would he do this to me...?"
All these years, while Lilah made a mess in the Wallace house, she had been the one quietly staying by Aiden's side, teaching him, looking after him.
Even if she wasn't his biological mom, she still counted as the one who raised him, right?
How could he treat her like this?
"Miss Nolan, from now on you'll take your meals in the servants' wing, same as everyone else," Mr. Reed reminded her again, his tone flat.
Verity bit her lip hard. The servants' wing—that was where the staff ate.
She wasn't some maid!
Casting one last unwilling glance at the room inside, she turned and walked off, her eyes filled with suppressed frustration.
It had to be Lilah.
No doubt she was behind this, whispering in Mr. Wallace's ear.
Why would he trust everything Lilah said so easily?
