By the time the storm stopped, the sky was just starting to brighten.
It was freezing. Sabrina felt like she was about to turn into an ice cube. Her body jolted from the cold and she snapped awake, dazed.
She heard the crunch of footsteps approaching and instantly tensed. Glancing at Cassian lying next to her, she realized-he was out cold. Not even twitching.
She gave him a firm shake. Nothing. Not a blink. Sabrina started to panic-those footsteps were getting closer. Whoever it was would get to them in under a minute.
She started patting him down in a hurry, eventually finding the holster by his side. She yanked the gun out, heart racing, eyes locked on the broken slope above, every nerve taut.
"Wake up, come on, don't do this!" she whispered, jabbing Cassian with her elbow.
He slumped sideways, completely unresponsive.
