Carmen looked at Annie's ashen face. "Annie, you don't look well."
She stepped forward, as if her concern were genuine. "I only came to see Grandma. I didn't expect to frighten you and Grandma. I'm really sorry."
Her voice was soft and innocent, as though she truly were just a clueless younger sister. "Dad and Mom arranged a place for me in Jynston. I just moved in, so I'll be coming by often to see you and Grandma."
She paused, as if remembering something. "It's getting late. I'll go now, so I won't disturb your rest."
After she finished speaking, Carmen turned and left the Steward residence with graceful, unhurried poise.
