Scarlett’s POV
I froze.
That… I couldn’t defend.
I didn’t want anything more to do with him. If Everett stayed on as the investor, he’d have a valid reason to show up anytime he damn well pleased during filming.
I had to admit it—I wasn’t as chill as I made myself out to be. Just the thought of running into my ex over and over after the divorce made my skin crawl.
If I had the option to make my life even a little less miserable, why would I keep putting myself through hell?
Three years. That’s how long I smiled through everything. That patience? Gone. I was done swallowing my pride for anyone.
“Scarlett, you’re not as over it as you keep saying,” Everett said, his voice calm but cutting sharp. “If you’d really let go—if you really saw me as a stranger—you wouldn’t care whether I invested in the movie or not.”
My jaw tensed. He’d hit a nerve—hard. I glared at him, my eyes burning with frustration.
