Everett’s POV
Even if Scarlett didn’t come to me, she wouldn’t choose James. Of that, I was certain.
Right now, all I needed to focus on was getting her back. No matter what it took, I wanted to see her eyes filled with love for me again.
Davis had gone to fetch the doctors.
Inside the room, James and I stood face-to-face, the air so thick with tension that it was suffocating.
I tried stepping closer to the bed to check Scarlett’s face, but James blocked me completely, not giving an inch.
If Scarlett didn’t need rest, I might’ve dragged him out of the way right then and there.
We stared each other down until James finally lost his patience.
“Everett, just tell me—why did you let Scarlett get divorced?” he demanded.
My face stayed cold as I replied, “That’s none of your business.”
“Oh, can’t bring yourself to answer?” He smirked, switching tactics. “Three years of secret marriage, nonstop rumors about you, and now there’s that dancer, Amelia Martin, who’s been hanging around ever since
