Eleanor’s POV
I swallowed hard.
Honestly? Everett Robinson felt way scarier tonight than any of the other times I’d met him.
It wasn’t that he raised his voice or made a scene—he didn’t have to. The air around him just seemed thicker, heavier somehow, as if everyone in the room was holding their breath.
Everett gently laid Scarlett back on the bed, his movements precise, almost too controlled. Then he turned to the nurse, his voice calm but carrying an undertone that made even me shiver.
“How long is the physical cooling going to take?”
“About an hour,” she replied carefully, clearly feeling the weight of his presence too.
“I’ll wait outside.” He checked the time on his watch, his tone cutting like glass. “If her fever isn’t down by then, your hospital better have an explanation ready.”
Yikes. Same old Mr. Robinson. Zero trust in anyone but himself.
He gave Scarlett one last look before striding out.
“Wait for me!” James jumped off the couch and jogged after him.
