The doctor silently retreated to the end of the corridor, pushing open the door to the emergency stairwell and stepping inside.

The call connected quickly.

He was greeted by nothing but deadly silence on the other end. That silence was far more terrifying than any threats or scolding.
The doctor could even picture Michael's expression rapidly darkening.
After a long while, an aged, icy voice finally said, "I don't care what you have to do. That child cannot be allowed to live."
The order was delivered lightly, yet it hit the doctor's heart with crushing weight.
He was a doctor with a solemn duty to heal and save lives. But the person on the other end was someone he absolutely could not afford to offend.
He had no choice.
