Camilla's pov
The smell of cold wood and dust filled the safehouse. Even though it was a forgotten location that nobody would consider searching, there was a sense of tension there, as if the walls themselves were holding their breath. I waited for Alejandro to arrive by the window, where the moonlight hardly reached my feet. My heart was pounding so loudly that it was resonating in my ears like a drum.
I experienced the same old surge of rage and something else I wasn't yet ready to label when he eventually entered the room, cautious and silent. He showed no signs of relief or even a smile. Rather, he had piercing eyes that mirrored my own, full of pain and questions.
