Asher tried to shake Jesse off, but Jesse used every ounce of strength he had and refused to let go.
"Mr. Green, calm down! He's not worth it! If Mrs. Greene finds out, she'll be worried!"
Asher's breathing gradually steadied.
He shook Jesse off and walked over to Caleb, who was slumped on the ground like a boneless heap.
Shadow fell across Asher's face. His eyes gleamed.
"If you ever touch a single hair on my wife's head again," he began, straightening his rumpled collar. "I'll make sure you disappear from Navalton."
He turned and walked away without sparing the man on the ground another glance.
Jesse followed. He barely dared to breathe.
Once they were in the car, Jesse looked at Asher's ice-cold profile in the rearview mirror.
After hesitating, he finally spoke. "Mr. Greene, should we tell Mrs. Greene about this?"
He thought it might be the perfect chance to win her back.
"What for?"

"So she knows you fought for—"
