The train pulled into the station. Juliet stepped foot on the ancient cobblestone road of Elderford and took several deep breaths. She felt the heavy tension that had been stuck in her chest for days easing up a little.
The air in Navalton had a perpetual sense of restlessness mixed with exhaust fumes and the smell of money.
Things were different here.
The winds here carried moisture and the sweet scent of flowers instead.
Ariane pulled her suitcase along, her quick and eager pace reminiscent of a bird released from its cage.
"Well? What do you think? I told you this place is heaven on earth!" Ariane proudly raised her chin. "Spend three days here, and you won't even remember what Asher looked like!"
Juliet forced a small smile, but she didn't say anything in reply.
How could she forget? That man and his face seemed to be etched into her very being. She couldn't pretend those 15 years never existed.
