It wasn't as busy here at night as it was in the city center, but it wasn't some deserted village either-still had a bit of life to it.
She'd already eaten, glanced at the sky-way too late to expect any rental listings now.
So she strolled slowly along the street. Being away from the city, from anywhere Lucian could track her down, even the air seemed to taste fresher.
She took deep breaths, almost greedy for the clean suburban air, while keeping an eye out for anywhere she could crash for the night.
Meanwhile, Lucian was in the apartment waiting on Ariella like she was just late or something. He honestly didn't think she had the guts to defy him.
He hadn't bothered with dinner either. He just sat there, waiting her out.
Once she showed up, he planned to make her pay. He always got a kick out of playing this cat-and-mouse game-but this time, he'd clearly underestimated her. The mouse didn't scare so easy.
The longer he waited, the less smug he felt. Damn that woman-daring to go against
