There was a quiet hopelessness in Serena Dawson’s voice, like she didn’t care if death came knocking. She was just… done. Jennifer Edwards stood aside, her face tight with unease, then walked over and gently draped a shawl around Serena’s shoulders. “Ma’am, the wind’s strong out here. You don't want to catch a chill.”
“Thanks,” Serena smiled faintly, patting the seat next to her. “Will you sit with me for a bit?”
