CHAPTER ONE HUNDRED AND FORTY SIX – SCREWED OVER AGAIN
As they approached the airfield, Cassie's nerves began to fray. The place looked deserted, just a small runway and a couple of dilapidated hangars.
"Are you sure about this?" she asked as they parked the jeep behind some overgrown bushes.
Florian squeezed her hand reassuringly. "Trust me."
They approached the largest hangar, Florian's posture tense and alert. He rapped out a complex pattern on the metal door.
For a long moment, nothing happened. Then, with a groan of rusty hinges, the door slid open a crack.
"Who's there?" a gruff voice called out.
"Florian von Steiner," he replied. "I'm calling in a favor."
The door opened wider, revealing a weathered man with sharp eyes. He looked them up and down, his gaze lingering on Cassie.
"Von Steiner, eh?" he grunted. "Heard you'd gone rogue. Caused quite a stir in certain circles."
Florian's jaw tightened. "We need passage out of Romania. Can you help us or not?"
