CHAPTER ONE HUNDRED AND TWENTY-FIVE - Secrets Whispered Over Sunday Roast
Ava's cousins were scattered around the kitchen, looking various degrees of confused and sleepy. Cousin Freddy, however, seemed unnaturally alert, rummaging through the cabinets with manic energy.
Linda hung up the phone with a frustrated sigh. "The catering company just cancelled. Apparently, their van broke down on the highway."
"So... no lunch?" Ava's younger brother Jack asked, looking almost hopeful.
Linda's eyes narrowed. "Oh, there will be lunch. We're just going to have to make it ourselves."
A collective groan rose from the assembled family members.
"Come on, team Hart!" Linda clapped her hands together. "We can do this. Ava, you're on salad duty. Jack, start peeling potatoes. Emma... Emma?" She looked around. "Where's Emma?"
"Still upstairs," Ava supplied. "She's been weird since yesterday."
Linda sighed. "I'll deal with her later. For now, let's focus on feeding thirty hungry Harts."
