Aaron’s POV
Amazingly, the meeting only lasted another fifteen minutes – long enough for Emma to dangle what information she has without revealing enough details to be of any use. I didn’t care though. I had what I needed.
And I wanted them out.
Unfortunately, Father called them a car so that he could stay behind for a little “father-son time”. After I stomached hugging Emma as if it was a huge relief that we could focus on our friendship moving forward, the Ashfords were out the door. And Father was on his way to my liquor cabinet.
He’s pouring himself a glass of his favorite amber liquid as he asks, “Why does my granddaughter have a stuffed beaver named Bunny?”
I wipe a hand down my face, already exhausted as I sit at on a stool in the kitchen. “Because that’s what she named it.”
“But she clearly knows it’s not a bunny.”
I don’t hold back my smile at the memory of Ruby biting off Emma’s head. “Clearly.”
“Did she understand it wasn’t a bunny when she named it?”
