Richard walked into the dimly lit room, the heavy scent of Eleanor’s perfume filling the air. He paused at the doorway, noticing Eleanor and Olivia deep in conversation. Their voices were low, but the intensity in their tones was unmistakable. As he stepped closer, he caught snippets of their discussion—plans, whispers of abduction, and the name Rachel.
His gaze shifted to Olivia, whose eyes briefly met his before she quickly looked away, a flash of guilt crossing her face. Eleanor noticed his presence and, without breaking her stride, said, “Olivia, dear, excuse us. Your father and I have matters to discuss.”
Olivia nodded, her movements tense, and hurried out of the room, leaving Richard alone with Eleanor. He watched her go, a wave of unease settling in his stomach.
